![]() ![]() ![]() Modelmaker Joe Johnston had about four weeks to redesign the Falcon, and Lucas' only suggestion to Johnston was to "think of a flying saucer". The original model was modified, re-scaled, and used as Princess Leia's ship, Tantive IV. The ship originally had a more elongated appearance, but this design's similarity to the Eagle Transporters in Space: 1999 prompted Lucas to change the Falcon 's design. Described as being one of the fastest vessels in the Star Wars canon, the Falcon looks worn-out but despite its humble origins and shabby exterior, the Millennium Falcon has played a critical role in some of the greatest victories of the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic. Solo: A Star Wars Story depicts the ship as being co-piloted by, and later integrated with, Calrissian's droid 元-37 ( Phoebe Waller-Bridge). The ship, a YT-1300 Corellian light freighter, is primarily commanded by smuggler Han Solo ( Harrison Ford and Alden Ehrenreich) and his Wookiee first mate, Chewbacca ( Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo), and was previously owned by gambler/con-artist Lando Calrissian ( Billy Dee Williams and Donald Glover). It also appears in the 2014 animated film The Lego Movie in Lego form. Additionally, the Falcon appears in a variety of Star Wars spin-off works, including books, comics, and games James Luceno's novel Millennium Falcon focuses on the titular ship. Designed by Joe Johnston for the movie Star Wars (1977), it has subsequently appeared in The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1983), The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019). The team is currently building a workshop in the wooded lot to accommodate the enormity of the Falcon’s building demands. is being consistently updated with details concerning this massive project and is a testament to his determination. is very elaborate, with an abundance of pictures showing already completed pieces of the interior and exterior, thought out dimensions and blueprints, and reference material up the wazoo. Using everything from a hubcap taken off a Triumph Spitfire to a Rolls Royce Dart Aircraft Engine Elbow, Chris and his small team of five are using everything at their disposal. Normally, we might see a project like this flash before our consciousness and say, “Humbug, what a bunch of malarkey,” however, Chris Lee’s website detailing the project is quite impressive. Support this project, and maybe one day in the near future you can put yourself in picture like this one, minus the docking bay, and more like an approach from Endor. If you want, you can even offer to join the team and put yourself in the cockpit. Han Solo’s smuggling ship will be placed on Chris’ 88 acre wooded lot, and will be able to be seen on Google Earth, oh yes. He has the blueprints, a small crew of designers, a contractor and a time frame of around 5-7 years of completion. He wants to build the ultimate Star Wars prop, a 1:1 scale ESB/ANH hybrid Millennium Falcon with complete, correctly scaled interior.
